PostHeaderIcon Blessings (365 Days of Blessings – Day 169)

I am thankful for blessings

It occurred to me that in this journey through a year of blessings, that I have yet to mention that I am thankful for all the blessings, big and small, that are generally present in my day-to-day life. I am a truly blessed woman!

PostHeaderIcon Step by Step Guide to Planning Dates for Your Wife (Fabulous Fatherhood)

The following is a guest post written by my wonderful hubby.  We ran it on Friday, but I was on the road and my formatting was hopelessly messed up.  All is fixed and I thought we’d re-run it so you would have an opportunity to plan a date this week for your wife (or you might have an opportunity to tweet this post, or e-mail, to your own hubby!)  I’m trying to convince him to write more guest posts for Pardon My Poppet, so if you have a moment, leave him a word or two of prodding encouragement!

Be the CHAMPION of Her Heart!

How many championship titles do you have? No, not boxing championships; nor even a beloved Superbowl Championship (Go Bills!). I am talking about being the champ of your wife’s heart. Say wha …? Ahem. Yes. That kind of gooey, sappy, fluffy kind of love champ. This kind of champ is not made by slugging weights, or by nasty reps, or by knocking heads, but by love.

Wait, you say. She doesn’t even ask me to plan dates, not since I was a 34 waist and had sculpted Conan the Barbarian shoulders. That’s because she’s given up on asking! Trust me, she wants you to romance her.

My wife and I have built our marriage on dates. And, husbands, if you want your wifey to think your now 38 waist and soft shoulders look even more appealing than your once-upon-time 34 waist and boulders for shoulders, you’ve got to become and remain the champ of heart. Dating your wife is the path to achieving this.

Here is how to put this together. You’ll need then following tools: Read the rest of this entry »

PostHeaderIcon My Husband’s Paintings (365 Days of Blessings – Day 136)

I am thankful for my husband’s paintings

When we were dating I ran across a sketch book of my husband’s. I was amazed at the intricate detail in his sketches. Since then I have kept everything he’s ever drawn (yes, even paper tablecloths drawn with crayons at restaurants). I even make him sign each and every one. A few years ago he started painting. First was oils. I love the texture that comes with the oil medium. Then he started to experiment with Acrylics (his new favourite). Either way, I’m his biggest fan!

PostHeaderIcon Welcome to Mummy Monday! – Where I’m Coming From…

First day of the new blog feature Mummy Mondays! And the opportunity to write about anything my little heart desires is exhilarating. What to choose? I think of all the possibilities, and am left with……a blank! So I head into my Post ideas folder and pull out the most interesting. Hmmmmm…..nothing. How anti-climactic! Perhaps I’ll just tell you a little more about me!

I was born in Toronto in the 70′s. Smack dab in the middle of them. I have always felt like I missed my prime decade by about 30 years or so. Always wanted to be the quintessential housewife, dressed up on a daily basis in a beautiful smock, hair perfect, truly feminine. I have been surrounded by the woman’s movement my entire life, but am happiest having my husband provide for our family and being as much of a support as I can to him.

To say I am a kept woman, silent in demeanor and opinion would be a lie. But I love having a man who wants to protect me, guide me, help me be a better person. I think that’s why I love the Art of Manliness blog so much. I wish the founders would come out with the flip side on the Art of Femininity, but I wonder how it would be received.

I have worked many jobs in my life, usually climbing to managerial positions. I love being in sales, and my most challenging job was supervising a team of 42 national in field merchandising salespeople for a major software producer. (competitor to Microsoft). I believe being truly feminine does not mean you are not a capable woman, but as one person I know put it, we can wear the pants (to use a vintage term), but choose not to. This is in essence where I am happiest in life.

I know not everyone subscribes to this way of thinking, and I am not trying to convince anyone that this is for them. I just want to share where I am in life and who I am so you can understand me better as you read our blog! Would love to hear what makes you happiest as a Mom/Wife, Husband/Father or single in your life! Comments are always open!

PostHeaderIcon 365 Days of Blessings – Day 56 – End of the Work Day

This one is my husband’s idea.  He just finished his second 11 hour day in a row.  And since I was not as sympathetic as I should have been  (stating that I’ve worked 15 months of 14 hour days in a row not the smartest idea I’ve had to date), I asked what I should be thankful for today.  This was his response:

I am thankful for the end of the work day

Me too.

PostHeaderIcon 365 Days of Blessings – Day 41 – 14 years with my Husband

In February it will be 15 years since Hubby and I met.  I was on a first and last date with his room-mate.  Because I worked afternoons, by the time I got off nothing was open.  We decided to call a bunch of friends and head back to his place for a movie.  Hubby had recently been laid off and was trying to get some sleep.  He came roaring down the stairs, yelling something about inconsiderate people, and (how he tells it) I was hooked.

The way I remember it is this:  I thought, “how rude!”  But then it started to snow.  And his room-mate plowed snow for a living.  Off he went and Hubby and I chatted until 5 AM.  I knew that very evening that he was the one I was going to marry.  He was so different from anyone else I had ever dated.  So, 10 months later we headed to a justice of the peace and have been happily married for the past 14 years.

I am very thankful for the past 14 years I’ve been married to my wonderful husband

PostHeaderIcon “That was funny”

I heard myself saying these words to my husband as we watched a show last night.  I was struck by the absurdity that I felt the need to tell him when a part of the show was funny (it really was, and he didn’t even crack a smile!)  Perhaps it was not funny funny, perhaps it was clever funny and he did not find it all that humorous?  Whatever the reason, he didn’t laugh.

Sometimes our lives follow the pattern of Lionel and Jean from the British sitcom “As Time Goes By” too much!   A series of day-to-day mishaps and misunderstandings.  You know what though?  No matter what is going on, there is no one I’d rather be spending my life with, to raise our daughter with, to grow old with.

Warmest regards,
