Skip the Shower to Save Time
Image(s): FreeDigitalPhotos.net
Okay, bear with me here. This one was my husband’s idea. I kinda laughed it off, but there may be something to it. Perhaps I don’t think that on a Frenzied Friday I should just, “don a ball cap and head out the door” as he suggested, but I can see showering the night before and doing your hair. Then you can choose to re-shower in the morning and just touch up your “do”, or if desperate for time, head out the door in a flash (Well, as much of a flash as you can with a toddler in tow). Just Like a New Mum!
Not in that glowing radiance kinda way, but more like it’s 5PM and I just stepped out of the shower!
I had the best of intentions, really I did. I put on my workout clothes at 9:30 this morning, fully planning on following the daily routine: breakfast for Poppet , Workout, Lunch, Nap, Clean, Dinner, Sleep, etc.
Well, that was the intention. Read the rest of this entry »

Picking the Right Pet For Your Family (Frenzied Friday Guest Post)
Some folks believe that it is actually cruel and inhuman to force children to grow up without a pet. I guess my parents held that theory, although they never expressed the sentiment, because there was not one period of my youth where at least one dog was not a part of the household. Cats, turtles, goldfish and even snakes had their spells of popularity, but a dog was a fixture in our home.
By the same nonchalant attitude towards pets in general, the pet dog was chosen in a very haphazard way. A neighbor had a litter, or a mongrel was found cold and starving or the old dog died and we went to the ASPA to get a new one. Not much thought (or knowledge, for that matter) about designer or pedigreed dogs. Today, choosing a dog is, like so many other aspects of our modern life, fraught with complications. We have to have the right dog. Read the rest of this entry »

Grab and Go Toddler Snacks (Frenzied Friday)
We are always on the road, and with a growing Poppet in tow we need to always have quick grab snacks within easy reach. I am not very inventive, so here are my go-to items to always keep in the car or my bag to prevent a big meltdown! (And the angry looks of all those who just know they are better parents than you!)
1) Goldfish Crackers – I actually buy the whole wheat President’s Choice brand Penguin crackers. These crumble easily (and can make a big mess), but they are the perfect size for teeny fingers. I keep an old cup in the car and throw a couple of these “cookies” (don’t tell her okay? Promise I won’t let your kid know either that they’re just crackers!) at a time. It takes her a little while to fish them out of the bottom of the cup before asking for more.
2) A Sippy Cup – Nothing like hearing a toddler ask for wa-wa over, and over, and over again. I use the biggest adult stainless steel one I could find (from Old Navy) with a straw built-in so she doesn’t have to figure out how to tip it up. Kinda like her own personal camel. Valuable Life Lessons from Winnie the Pooh (Frenzied Friday Guest Post)
Winnie the Pooh is an icon. Well, not just Winnie the Pooh, but all his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood, Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, Roo, Rabbit and all the other fabulous characters are a part of our culture. From a very early age we get to know these characters so well, they seem to become our friends too, as well as Christopher Robin’s.
So what is it that makes Winnie the Pooh such an enduring classic? Why is it that year after year, A. A. Milne’s remarkable creation continues to captivate generation after generation of children. One thing it’s not is just marketing. While the Winnie the Pooh franchise is a major source of revenue for Disney, if people didn’t want it, they certainly wouldn’t continue to produce it. There is a magic to the adventures of these characters from the Hundred Acre Wood, and here are five reasons why it’s still so loved.
“How lucky I am, to have something which makes saying goodbye so hard.”
As I’ve already said, we’ve grown up with Pooh Bear; the stories are timeless. He’s part of our lives in a way that takes us back to simpler times. Whether that was watching a cartoon, or our earliest experiences with books, it’s integral to what helped us grow up. As we grow up (not that we should ever really, really grow up!) and have children of our own, it’s a wonderful story to share. Winnie the Pooh and his friends have become an adventure to be passed down through generations. That’s pretty special.
“He respects owl, as you can’t help but respect anybody who can spell TUESDAY, even if he doesn’t spell it right.”
There’s a healthy amount of nonsense in the stories of Winnie the Pooh, but it’s not just silly for its own sake. There’s an undeniable wisdom in those words, it’s just a matter of thinking differently. Life isn’t all about absolutes, and the lovely, woolly thinking behind A. A. Milne’s writing is incredibly eye-opening.
“I wonder what Piglet’s doing,” thought Pooh. “I wish I was there to be doing it, too.”
There’s a very valuable lesson in Milne’s stories, and that’s friendship. We’re all very different people, with very different personalities. You can see these distilled among Pooh’s friends, from the effervescent Tigger to the moping Eeyore. Even among these very different animals, there is a bond of friendship, and it celebrates the differences among us.
“You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”
Talking of valuable lessons, there are very few as important as believing in yourself. Let’s face it, we’re all our worst critics. Mistakes can seem 10 times bigger than we are, and we can feel silly and ridiculous next to others. Everyone feels the same! If you were to take a step back and look and look at how you navigate through lift, you’ll realise you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself.
”“When you do the things that you can do, you will find a way.”
The Winnie the Pooh books also teach us to keep going and never give up. You might not be the most ambitious, or the cleverest, or the happiest at any particular time, but life goes on. Along the way there are things you do well, and… there are things you might not do quite as well. Just remember your strengths, and use them to your best advantage. It’s true throughout life, no matter what age you are.

Statigram – Instagram Online Viewing! (Frenzied Friday)
Since I schedule my Silent Saturday posts on Friday, it means adding to the frenzy as I have to do double the number of posts. One thing I love to do is take pics throughout the week on Instagram, and then sort through them for a pic that’s just right for Saturday. Until now, that meant saving to my camera roll, e-mailing it to myself, downloading it, etc, etc, etc,…..
Then I ran across Statigram, and it’s a real time saver. Even for those who are not bloggers and just want to access larger, more beautiful images of our instagram shots and the pics of those we follow, Statigram is exactly what Instagram is missing – an on-line Instagram viewer. I can see my feed, like posts, print pics, share pics, make comments – pretty much everything I’d do on my phone. I don’t even have to do anything except sign in with my existing Instagram credentials, and there is my entire account all ready to go! Statigram is definitely a Poppet’s Pick!
