FOOD
Okay, so I’m starting with my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE blog this week. Pamela’s Heavenly Treats is a feast for the taste buds, the eyes and the mind! I drool like one of Pavlov’s dogs just hearing that she’s posted something new (which is, you know, all the time!). Today’s special is home-made strawberry ice cream. Perfect for those ripe little berries!
CRAFTS
I have a crush on Coffee Girl Crafts, it’s true! The site is whimsical, the vibe is genuine, and her tutorials are amazing! There just doesn’t seem to be anything this girl can’t do! I can’t wait to put together my own bubble magnets on our next rainy day! Read the rest of this entry »

Food:
Carrie’s Sweet Life is insanely yummy!!!! I don’t know where all her recipes come from, but the pics alone are enough to make a grown man drool. Don’t believe me? Take a peek at her Coconut Key Lime Bread! Read the rest of this entry »

Pita Bread (365 Days of Blessings – Day 170)
I am thankful for Pita Bread
How versatile a pocket! Filled with sliced tomato and mayo is my fave! But super practical for Poppet’s little hands too! Just beggin’ to be stuffed!

Grab and Go Toddler Snacks (Frenzied Friday)
We are always on the road, and with a growing Poppet in tow we need to always have quick grab snacks within easy reach. I am not very inventive, so here are my go-to items to always keep in the car or my bag to prevent a big meltdown! (And the angry looks of all those who just know they are better parents than you!)
1) Goldfish Crackers – I actually buy the whole wheat President’s Choice brand Penguin crackers. These crumble easily (and can make a big mess), but they are the perfect size for teeny fingers. I keep an old cup in the car and throw a couple of these “cookies” (don’t tell her okay? Promise I won’t let your kid know either that they’re just crackers!) at a time. It takes her a little while to fish them out of the bottom of the cup before asking for more.
2) A Sippy Cup – Nothing like hearing a toddler ask for wa-wa over, and over, and over again. I use the biggest adult stainless steel one I could find (from Old Navy) with a straw built-in so she doesn’t have to figure out how to tip it up. Kinda like her own personal camel. 365 Days of Blessings Challenge – Day 83 – Pico de Gallo!
I am thankful for Pico de Gallo
My favourite is Penny’s Salsa! I buy it from Costco, multiple 48 oz jars at a time! When I was pregnant I craved it. It’s the kind of slow burn that builds and builds. I LOVE IT!

Weightless Wednesday – A Little Indulgence and I Can’t See My Feet….
…and no, it’s not because of my weight! That title alone proves that grammar is important, because one part of the phrase has absolutely nothing to do with the other.
I woke up this morning and can’t move my neck. Tried stepping on the scale, but can’t actually turn my head enough to see the number on the scale, so no weigh-in this morning :-( Since a workout was also out of the question, it was on to bigger and better things, breakfast!
Had a smoothie and a small vanilla-mint latte. My milk frother is on the fritz, and it will be 3 business days before the next one arrives, so didn’t bother taking a pic. This got me thinking about how little indulgences fit into a healthy diet.
In my personal experience, if I want something, if I really crave it, I better eat it. If I try to avoid what I am craving, I will inadvertently overdo it on “healthy” foods, each one leaving me unsatisfied. I will eat just for the sake of trying to fill that void. And in the end, I will eat the food I was craving to begin with (and probably in greater abundance now that I’ve also stuffed myself with different foods and reason that I’ve ruined the calorie count for the day already, so why not go all out?)
I’ve learned that if I eat a little taste of what I am craving, and then move on to the healthier choices if I’m still hungry, I won’t overdo it. I eat much less, and I am satisfied. Sometimes our bodies crave things because there is something in the food that our body needs at that moment. Other times it is for comfort, or joy. We can’t expect to ignore these calls and succeed on any nutrition path. So go ahead, indulge. Just do it in balance!

365 Days of Blessings – Day 78 – Grandma’s Bed & Breakfast (when Grandma’s outta the country!)
On our return from Sudbury this week-end, we stoppped in at Grandma’s in Toronto. As hubby had Monday off and we planned on heading to the zoo, it was the perfect place to bed down for a couple of nights.
We arrived, unpacked, and opened the fridge (pretty much in that order). It was BARE! Not a thing but a hunk of cheese and a bit of cream. Thankfully we had stopped for souvlaki take out and had dinner in the bag. Consoled ourselves with the keurig k-cups instead and went to bed.
Woke up on Monday. Headed to kitchen. Gave Poppet a hunk of cheese and Lemon heart-shaped cookies for breakfast. Had a Keurig. Had some more cookies for snack. Got in the van and headed to the zoo.
Stopped at Wimpy’s on the way to the zoo for Lunch (or kinda a real breakfast). Ate some eggs and toast. Had some coffee. Headed to the zoo.
Walked around for 3 glorious hours. Got in the van. Headed back to Grandma’s. Opened the fridge. Drat! Forgot it was empty. Opened the parmesan chicken we had bought at Costco the day before and baked it up. Got some frozen veggies from the local Shoppers Drug Mart and enjoyed dinner.
Feeling peckish after dinner. Nothing to snack on. Finish off expensive lemon cookies. Feed a couple to Poppet. Put Poppet to bed, turn on Amadeus. Have another Keurig. Thankfully Grandma has an extra stacks of k-cups in the living room. We restock the carousel so she won’t know how many we’ve had. Mental note to self: make sure to empty all garbages upon leaving so she won’t discover the stash when she returns home. Don’t forget to clean out the cookie container. She’ll probably forget they were there when she left (if we’re lucky).
All in all, had a great time camping out at Grandma’s. Only thing missing was food, and well……..Grandma!
I am thankful for Grandma’s Bed and Breakfast
