Remember when your mom used to shove you outside and tell you to go play? Remember the days when you would be gone almost all day, until you’d hear her whistle from the park blocks away? Remember the carefree, active life we used to lead? The way the world is today is making it nearly impossible for our children to enjoy the same benefits we did, and yet the need for physical activity is no less than it was when we were children ourselves.

Isn’t it awful that kids can’t be out and about anymore? I know I always feel so much better, and get so much more sleep when I exercise.

I love the way you offered this info in the form of an infographic! It’s very informative. I encourage my kids to go outside all the time, and my youngest daughter has taken up running!

Exercise is so important! As my kids progress through their teens, I’ve noticed it’s harder to get them moving. We went to the pool tonight, but not without plenty of complaints from the older two! Still, we do manage to exercise daily, partly because it’s the only way they get to earn some screen time. Great reminder – thanks for posting this!
Dead on! I’m constantly trying to find ways to entice my kids to go an play outside! I think part of the problem is also that the world is not as safe a place as it used to be, so that sometimes makes parents a little uneasy about sending their kids down the block on their own to play. But where there’s a will, there’s a way!
Liz… what a great post!! I love this, how visual all the information is. Grace and peace, Carla

It is depressing that life has changed so much since we were young. I try to keep my kids active as much as possible. This is a great kick in the butt that I need to do it more often!
What’s funny here is that they made mice run 3 miles. For a human 3 miles is pretty far, but for a mouse with those little legs??? 3 miles must be like a marathon! I wonder if they accounted for that in their study.
Yeah, I remember the good ol’ days. We’d be outside making forts, chasing neighborhood cats, seeing who was the biggest daredevil on the monkey bars… but today, man, they just sit in front of the TV like fricken little zombies.
