It is officially the last long week-end of summer, and if you haven’t been enjoying watermelon (only the official fruit of summer – what have you been waiting for!)
Okay, we all know cutting a watermelon is nothing less than a great big mess! But it really doesn’t have to be. There is a much better way than trying to force a sharp object through the circumference of a really large, wobbly item. Here are a few easy tips for cutting watermelon. If wish to keep the rind on, simply ignore the 2nd step.
1. Cut of the ends of the watermelon. This will give you a flat surface to stabilize the watermelon as you cut it.
2. Stand the watermelon on one end and cut the rind off, following the contoured edge. (ignore this step to keep the rind on)
3. With the watermelon still standing on end, slice it lengthwise into quarters.
4. Take each quarter and lay it down. Now you can slice it into triangles, or cut it into chunks. Now wasn’t that easy and relatively mess free?

Great way to slice a watermelon. It really does get messy otherwise.

Summer is over and we haven’t had it one time, unreal. I think it would be a good after dinner treat Tuesday (first day of school here). Everyone in our house likes watermelon. Thanks for the cutting tips.

This is AWESOME because, as I was cutting our watermelon tonight I was thinking “There has to be an easier way to do this!”. Perfect timing. Well, not so. I haven’t cut it like this so I will have to keep it in mind for the next one!
