How to Be Seen in the Dark

Dark, Reflector, Safees

When I turned 7, I was with my friends at a local McDonald’s.  We looked across the street and a car backed over a stroller.  It was devastating.  My dad, a police officer, quickly let the gathering and headed over to the scene.  He was gone the rest of the evening with the baby’s family.  If I remember correctly, the baby didn’t make it.

Did you know that a pedestrian is struck and killed by a vehicle every 120 minutes?  Most of these accidents happen when it is dark.  Even with street lights on a driver’s ability to see a person is significantly reduced.  Since becoming a parent, I am even more concerned with the safety of our children around vehicles.  They are often not seen.  I especially worry about a car not seeing my stroller, and the concern is amplified if it is dark out.  Did you know that simply by using a Safees reflector you can increase your chances of being seen by up to 500%?  500%!  Take a look at this 15 second clip to see the difference between using a reflector and not using one.  See how many people the car passes before you realize he’s seeing the person with the reflector!

Safees has the cutest of designs.  I’ve used them on my daughter, our stroller, myself, and even stuck one on the back and the front of my hubby when he went jogging after dark the other night.  He was not so thrilled with my choice of placing a heart and puppy on him, but there are many adult options available as well, I just didn’t have one handy at the time!

Safees are so easy to use, you simply clip them on.  That’s it!  And they are inexpensive too!  It’s a small price to pay for the safety of your family.  Right now Safees is running an awesome giveaway where you can win up to 60 Safees!  Hop on over and check them out!

I think these things are pretty cool. I permanently put several reflectors on my daughter’s bikes and they have reflective coats too (and I always tell them about staying away from the street), but something like this is pretty coool becuase you can take them on and off of different clothes and coats.
