In the fall of 2006, we were living in Edmond, OK while my husband went back to school. We were in our early 30's, and we were tired from trying to keep up with the other 20 year old students! Whew! We had a couple of days off before we had another big commitment, and so we decided to head down to San Antonio. We had no idea what to expect, we didn't even know that was where the Alamo was I think (forgive me, I'm Canadian!).

The drive down was calming, each passing mile bringing us closer to our week of relaxation and adventure! I clearly remember seeing thousands of monarch butterflies, flocking like beautiful birds on their migration south for the winter. It was stunning!
When we arrived, we quickly discovered the River Walk – a below street level mini-Venice! Hotels and food were mostly out of our reach, but we didn't know about SAVE – San Antonio Vacation Experience. With their Limited Time Offers we would have been able to vacation in even more style than we did. I did a quick bit of research for our wee Family and discovered that if we hit the following highlights, we could save big time!
Itinerary:
1) Stay at the Hyatt Regency right on the Riverwalk. We walked past this but it seemed so out of our price range. But with SAVE we can stay for as little as $125
2) Day 1: After enjoying our complimentary in-house breakfast we're heading on over to Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Think I'll use the online SAVE coupon so all of us only have to pay the child's admission price!
3) Day 2: We're heading on over the the San Antonio Children's Museum. Using the SAVE 20% discount. Cha-ching!
4) Day 3: We're going to have a picnic in the San Antonio Botanical Garden. Grab another coupon for $1 off. This is just too easy!
5) Day 4: Take a trolley tour around San Antonio: $3.00 off per person makes it an inexpensive way to explore the city!
6) Day 5: What would a trip to San Antonio be without shopping! From coupon booklets to free gifts, multiple merchants are offering you a great shopping experience!

Sounds like a wonderful trip! Anthing to help us save during a vacation gets my vote. Will definitely use them the next time we are planning one. Thanks for sharing!
Can I just say, I am super jealous of this great trip! We have not done anything exciting this summer. That is so cool! Great Savings tips too!

The Alamo is on my to-do list. I bookmarked the Vacation Experience. Thank you for sharing, it does sound nice.
I haven’t been to San Antonio in years, but I remember having a really good time on my last visit. In addition to the sights you mentioned, I’ll also suggest the zoo and the market place. Both are definitely fun with plenty to see.
It’s so nice to see someone sharing how much they enjoyed our city. Obviously we like it (since we live here) but as parents we also know how hard it is to travel with young kids. Come in the fall if you can to avoid the heat or during the holidays to see the Riverwalk all lit-up. For anyone flying in (or not wanting to use up all the car space with baby equipment) to SA you can rent strollers, car seats, play pens, etc. from us. Let me know if you’ll be back to SA and we’ll be happy to help with any equipment we can. That SAVE packet is great by the way….
