So you’ve been following us on Tidy Tuesday, and you’ve de-cluttered and organized your stuff. Â You’ve diligently made trips to the trash and thrift store donation centre, but there are just some items you are no longer using that you would rather part with for cash. Â What do you do?
If you’re ambitious, you have a garage sale. Â Garage sales can take a bit of planning, but usually they are the highest, quickest earners for cashflow. Â If you have the time to devote to it, and you have enough items to part with, this may be the perfect solution for you!
If you have big-ticket items that a garage sale would not pay enough for, consider putting them on an on-line auction or sale site. Â My faves are Ebay and Kijiji. Â I tend to buy more from Ebay than sell on it due to their fees as well as the PayPal fees, but I can often find a bargain. Â If you don’t mind the fees it gives you the widest audience as you can ship worldwide.
My favourite by far is Kijiji. Â I can list locally and sell locally, with no fees. Â I find this the easiest way to conduct business for an item of value. And I had no idea how far-reaching Kijiji was! Â I thought it was just in Canada, but it is also in the US, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Spain, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Poland, South Africa, turkey, India, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, Australia and New Zealand! Â Crazy
And the last rule is: Â set a time limit. Â If it doesn’t sell within say 60 days, just donate it! Â If you really aren’t using it, better to let someone else enjoy it for a while!
Warmest regards,
{j}

Have you tried Craig’s List. We sold our old sofa on Craig’s list for $50. We really just wanted to get rid of it, not really make money.

I like Craigslist, but Kijiji has a prettier interface and I tend to be more visual – but great suggestion!
Kijiji is where it’s at, for sure. Just make sure you follow the Kijiji rules and don’t get hosed….and likewise, build good Kijiji karma by not hosing other people.
And good tip about donating stuff if it doesn’t sell within 60 days — I’ll admit I don’t do that. I may knock the price down a little bit, but if it’s precious enough for me to want to sell in the first place, I at least want a few bucks for it.
