Clementine Crate Playscapes! {GUEST POST}

Winter is full of tasty treats.  Hot apple cider, turkey dinners, and sweet, juicy, clementines!  But what to do with a clementine crate when it’s empty?

How about a scene box?

I got the idea for a scene box one night while I was thinking of buying my daughter a doll house.  Then I saw an empty clementine crate, and some paints that were lazing around on my counter, and voila!  An idea was born.

Here’s what we’ll need:

• Clementine crate
• Acrylic paints
• A plate to mix the paints on
• A mat to protect the floor
• Glue, or Mod Podge
• A paint brush
• Container with water
• Anything else I can think of for decorating purposes – glitter, confetti, string, mini glass tiles, etc.

First, we paint all visible sides of the box white, just like a canvas.

Then we decorate away!  For this scene we used different coloured paints, and then brushed Mod Podge onto the backs of mini glass tiles.  Strategically placed by my two year old daughter, I think they did well to complement the background.

While our creation is drying I wash our paint brushes with warm water to get all the Mod Podge or glue off, so the brush tip does not harden.

Once dry, it’s time to play!  My daughter likes to put her My Little Ponies in her scene boxes, and move them from scene to scene.  First it’s a trip to the park.  Then off to a far away galaxy!
