PostHeaderIcon Tidy Tuesday – Bedroom De-Clutter

When we first moved into this house, we had no bed side tables.  As I was expecting Poppet, I needed a lot of table space for crackers, ginger ale, almonds, water, etc.  Plus essentials like a lamp and some reading material.  We headed to Ikea and bought the least expensive tables we could find.  They’ve served us well for close to 2 years, but our needs have changed.  Having a husband who is a minimalist means we needed to come up with a better solution for the sake of our marriage!

We headed back to Ikea in search of the perfect compromise.  Something pretty for me, something practical for him.  We piled the finds into the van along with the items for Poppet’s nursery make-over.  Here are some “before” pics for you:

The white of the tables blends into the surroundings, giving it a cold feel.

While I was at it I thought I’d better de-clutter the top of my bureau as well!

You can see the minimalist tendencies of my husband here.

He clearly does not appreciate my knack for organizing books from tallest to shortest!  I thought I did pretty good!

Here is the finished project:

The beech wood makes it feel more warm in the room.  Each table is higher than the previous ones and also less deep.  It gives us more surface space to work with.  As the lights are raised it gives a better glow overall and looks more balanced. I love the fact that I can reach the contents of my side table over the toddler rail we use when Poppet hops in bed with us!

We each chose storage containers for our own sides.  I went with 3 fabric covered boxes with handles.  I use them to store any loose ends within easy reach.  I moved my blog paint chip calendar from my bureau to my side table for a splash of colour.  (Notice, the books still neatly lined up from tallest to shortest!)

My husband chose more masculine magazine storage containers along with a couple of metal rimmed boxes.   He also put his plastic drawers onto the top shelf.  (Now he’ll just have to hone in on his pack rat instinct to fill those magazine boxes!

The bureau was cleaned off of any non-essential items and organized with a couple of candles and jewelry box.

Overall I’m really happy with this de-clutter project.  It got me ready to tackle other areas!  Perhaps the drawers will be next!

Warmest regards,
