Mabel’s Labels Monday – Customize it up!
We go to the cottage and trailer every summer. When it’s time to leave the house, we bundle up Poppet, coax the dog into the back of the van, and leave, usually 1-2 hours behind schedule. When we arrive at the cottage it is usually pitch black outside with LOTS of mosquitos buzzing about, just waiting for an opportunity to dig in!
I love to bake. Yes, that was a transition there. My kitchen is my favourite room of the house outside of my bedroom. I do almost all my blogging from the kitchen table, looking out the window at the neighbourhood. There are toys galore for Poppet to play with. If you’ve been to my house, you have no doubt noticed my spice rack. It is a wonder of round magnetic containers stuck to the side of my oversized fridge (the one my friends laughed me to scorn about when they helped move it into my kitchen. It almost doubles as a room divider!) Each little container is carefully labelled with the contents. There are no fewer than 54 at any one given time. Everything from allspice to yeast.
On each trip to the cottage, while fumbling for the keys to hand my husband, trying to figure out which one opens which door (who can remember from a year ago?), I knew that something had to be done. These keys are so seldom used. Once the door is open for the week-end the key is tossed into some corner and the door remains unlocked until we head home again, at which point we try yet again to figure out which key fits which lock. Also remembering which is the boat key, or the padlock. How much easier it would be to have these keys that don’t get pulled out very often, labelled. Like the one for the shed at the trailer, or the endless storage cabinets?

I think they are PERFECT for these keys! And if I type each word twice (i.e. Cottage front – Cottage Front) I can easily fold the label in half over the key and see its use on both sides. I think I’ve found the solution I’ve been waiting for! Sorry mosquitos, the most you’ll get out of me at cottage arrival time this summer is a light snack!

I go crazy with my keys too! Not only that I often have no idea which key goes to where on my keyring, I have several keyrings. Maybe I just shouldn’t have keys to all of my family members’ houses, OR just get them labelled. I haven’t thought of that actually, even if it sounds like a quite simple and great solution. :) Gosh! Thanks for the idea!
